History of the university is closely associated with the history of the Amur Region. Blagoveshchensk Technological Institute was founded on the basis of Blagoveshchensk Technical Faculty in 1975. At that moment it was the first institute of light industry in the Far East. In 1992 Blagoveshchensk Technological Institute was renamed into Blagoveshchensk Polytechnical Institute. Two years later the Polytechnical Institute developed into a full-fledged multidisciplinary university – the Amur State University.Since 1993 the Amur State University has been establishing international cooperation by opening a Department of International Relations and Foreign Economic Cooperation. In 1997 it was renamed in the Department of International Relations. Since that time it changed its name twice: in 2001 – the Department of International Projects and in 2014 – the International Affairs Office.
